About the Speaker

Xuejing Chen, MD, MS is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. She specializes in the medical and surgical management of vitreoretinal diseases including retinal vascular diseases, diabetic retinopathy, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, retinal detachments, macular degeneration, ocular trauma, secondary intraocular lens, posterior uveitis and retinal dystrophies. Dr Chen’s primary goal is to provide her patients with compassionate care using the most advanced treatments available and to provide management plans customized to each patient’s unique situation.

Dr Chen received her undergraduate degree in electrical and computer engineering with honors at the California Institute of Technology where she was supported by the California Institute of Technology Axline Merit Scholarship and her master’s degree in computer science with a focus in computational neuroscience at Carnegie Mellon University where she was supported by the Bell Labs Graduate Research Fellowship. After graduate school Dr Chen worked as a program officer at Orbis International focusing on their telemedicine and Middle Eastern programs. From there, Dr Chen obtained her medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine where she was supported by the Dean’s Merit Scholarship. After an intern year at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, Dr Chen completed her ophthalmology residency at the Stein Eye Institute at the University of California Los Angeles, where she received the Dr. Henry & Lilian Nesburn Award for Best Paper Submitted by a Resident in Southern California and the Stein Eye Institute Excellence in Research Award. After residency, Dr Chen completed her vitreoretinal fellowship in July 2018 at the combined program at Tufts Medical Center and the Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston, where she was a Top 5 Finalists in the Ophthalmology Times Research Scholar Honoree Program at the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Throughout training, she has maintained a strong interest in global health, doing field work or clinical rotations in rural China, Jerusalem, Kurdistan, Thailand, India and Ghana. She has special interests in medical technology and innovations, ocular imaging, surgical outcomes and global health. She has over 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

After the presentation, return to this course to take the post-lecture quiz. The quiz will consist of information that was presented during the session and should not be difficult if you watched the presentation. Once you finish and pass the quiz, mark the course as complete.
