About the Speaker
Dr. Lee Jones received his B.A. from Dartmouth College and M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. After completing a psychiatry residency and chief residency at University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Neuropsychiatric Institute, he entered a consultation – liaison fellowship at Cornell Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center followed by a research fellowship at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD).
Dr. Jones has worked across the spectrum of health care, from academic medical centers and safety net hospitals to HMOs, and in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency department settings. His experience ranges from a front-line clinician and educator, to chief of multiple overarching services, to service in multiple areas at AAMC. Dr. Jones’ portfolio includes work across the range of medical education, from pipeline programs to UME, GME, and CME at local, regional, and national levels. Diversity, equity, and inclusion have been an important focus of his career. Meeting regulatory, compliance, and accreditation requirements has been a significant area of work across Dr. Jones’ career, and he has extensive experience as the primary conflict resolution resource across a large, multi-specialty medical organization.
In the realm of medical education, Dr. Jones has worked across medical school curricular affairs, graduate medical education, admissions, and student affairs at Tulane, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of Arizona at Tucson, and University of California at Davis (UCD) prior to becoming the Dean for Medical Education at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Jones has been a Liaison Committee for on Medical Education (LCME) Site Team member, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) National Chair of the Group on Student Affairs (GSA), and an AAMC Holistic Review Site Team member. He served as the Chair of the AAMC Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) Task Force and is currently on the AAMC Board of Directors (BOD); he is the Chair of the BOD.
