About the Book

What is Heroes Behind the Mask?

Heroes Behind the Mask book flyer

Heroes Behind the Mask is a book created under Pre-Health Shadowing (PHS) to capture the untold narratives of healthcare professionals who served during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project features real stories from doctors, nurses, public health experts, and educators — exploring the intersection of healthcare, humanity, and systemic inequity.

Co-authored by Ramsha Essa (business student & software engineer) and Mirza Baig (medical student entering residency), and coordinated by Alina Azmat, the book highlights 30 professionals — many of whom have spoken at PHS virtual sessions.

Why Book Club?

The book club converts the book into a consistent student program: structured discussion, community, and repeatable weekly sessions.
