About the Speaker
Dr. Nancy C. Allen, MD, PhD, is a physician‑scientist in the UCSF Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine division whose work integrates high‑quality clinical care, translational research, and trainee mentorship. She earned her MD and PhD in Immunobiology from Yale University after completing a BS in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology at UCLA, and she completed her internship, residency, and fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UCSF. Clinically, Dr. Allen cares for patients with complex respiratory disease, acute respiratory failure, and sleep‑related breathing disorders, bringing evidence‑based, patient‑centered decision making to both inpatient and outpatient settings. Her research program focuses on how inflammation, cellular senescence, and dysregulated lung stroma alter the stem cell niche and impair repair—work that has translational implications for emphysema, fibrosis, and tumor microenvironments. She has authored influential papers in high‑impact journals and is the recipient of awards and grants supporting aging and lung health research, including the Bakar Aging Research Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship and a Nina Ireland Program for Lung Health Innovative Grant. Dr. Allen is board‑certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, and Critical Care Medicine and is actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows while serving on departmental committees to advance clinical quality and research collaboration.
