About the Speaker
Dr. Berenji is a double board‑certified physician in Occupational and Environmental Medicine and Public Health/General Preventive Medicine, and is board‑eligible in Clinical Informatics. She is an Associate Clinical Professor in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at UC Irvine School of Medicine, an Associate Clinical Professor in Environmental and Occupational Health at the UCI Program in Public Health, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Charles R. Drew University.
She serves as Chief of Occupational Health at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System, overseeing employee health, wellness operations, and the Environmental Health Clinic. She also leads AI initiatives across the Desert Pacific VA Healthcare Network, supporting innovation throughout the Southwest.
As Lead of Academic and Community Partnerships for the UC Center for Climate, Health and Equity, she advances academic–industry collaborations, develops climate‑related emergency preparedness strategies, partners with community leaders on practical climate solutions, and contributes to climate‑health curricula for medical trainees.
Nationally, she chairs the Council on OEM Science and leads the Health Informatics, Occupational Toxicology, and Environmental Health sections of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. She is pursuing board eligibility in Health Care Administration, Management, and Leadership through the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
She also chairs the American Medical Informatics Association’s Climate Health and Informatics Working Group and the Public Health Informatics Working Group, guiding efforts in resilience informatics, public health innovation, and learning health systems. She contributes to the California Consortium of Public Health Informatics and Technology at Cal State Long Beach and is a certified medico‑legal evaluator and qualified medical examiner in California.
