About the Speaker
Dr. Claire Yanta is an Associate Professor of Neurology whose work centers on the diagnosis and treatment of headache and facial pain disorders, including migraine, cluster headache, and cranial neuralgias. She practices primarily at the UPMC Headache Center and also serves as a neurology resident clinic preceptor at the UPMC Neurology Clinic in the Kaufmann Medical Building.
Her academic career is distinguished by a deep commitment to medical education, spanning both undergraduate and graduate training. She focuses on simulation‑based learning and curriculum innovation, contributing to national conversations on competency‑based neurology education. Her scholarly work includes publications on headache medicine, neurologic simulation training, and medical student assessment.
Dr. Yanta completed a Headache Medicine Fellowship and Neurology Residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, after earning her MD from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties in Headache Medicine.
She is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Headache Society, and the Association for Medical Education in Europe, reflecting her dual commitment to clinical excellence and educational leadership. Her contributions have been recognized with the Kenneth E. Schuit Award, honoring the Dean’s Master Educators at the University of Pittsburgh
