About the Speaker

Keaton Piper is a functional neurosurgeon who completed my undergraduate training at the University of Arkansas, followed by medical school at the University of Rochester, residency at the University of South Florida, and fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco. His research focuses on novel surgical and neuromodulatory treatments for refractory pain, an understudied area within neurosurgery, with particular emphasis on trigeminal neuralgia, Chiari-related pain, and atypical facial pain. In parallel, he has investigated brain networks and connectomics in the context of epilepsy surgery and deep brain stimulation (DBS), with the goal of improving our understanding of network-level brain function and identifying how surgical interventions may disrupt or preserve critical neural circuits. He additionally has subspecialty training in minimally invasive cranial approaches such as transorbital approaches in order to preserve eloquent tissue when operating on deep tumors or epilepsy foci.
