About the Speaker
Dr. Chico is an Instructional Professor in the Department of Neuroscience & Experimental Therapeutics and jointly appointed with the Department of Medical Education at the Texas A&M University College of Medicine, Bryan, TX. She received her Ph.D. in Cell Biology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX and completed postdoctoral training in Biochemistry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY. She has 16 years of experience teaching in the anatomical sciences (medical gross anatomy, medical histology, and medical neuroanatomy). Her primary aim as an educator is to create and contribute to a learning environment that promotes student-centered learning and transformational teaching. She has received multiple teaching awards including induction as a member of the Texas A&M University College of Medicine Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators, one of the inaugural recipients of the Texas A&M University Provost Academic Professional Track Faculty Teaching Excellence Award, and the Texas A&M University Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching, both at the college-level and the university-level. Dr. Chico also serves in several leadership roles in the medical curriculum. In addition to educating and mentoring future health professional students, Dr. Chico serves as a mentor to postdoctoral and early career faculty in the areas of teaching and leadership in education.
