About the Speaker
Dr. Sally Baxter is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at UCSD. She was awarded the Angier B. Duke Memorial Scholarship, a full academic merit scholarship, for undergraduate studies at Duke University. She was one of a few students nationwide selected by the British Government to receive a United States Marshall Scholarship for her Master’s of Science in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. She then completed her medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania with a full tuition scholarship through the 21st Century Scholar Program. She completed her ophthalmology residency training at the UCSD Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology and Shiley Eye Institute, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Biomedical Informatics funded by the National Library of Medicine. Most recently, she was a 2020 recipient of the National Institutes of Health Early Independence Award, a major grant awarded to only 13 promising young scientists across the country with high potential for performing cross-cutting, high-impact research. Her clinical and research interests include informatics applications in ophthalmology, predictive modeling using big-data analytics, integration of health information technology into clinical workflows, and medical education.
