About the Speaker

Dr. Matthew A. Weissman is the Site Chair of the Department of Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital, New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, and Mount Sinai Downtown and an Associate Professor in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.  In addition to maintaining an active primary care practice, he is responsible for the clinical, educational, and research activities of the Department, including oversight of more than 175 employed faculty and 120 medical residents and postdoctoral fellows.

Previously, Dr. Weissman was the Chief Medical Officer of Community Healthcare Network (CHN), a major network of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) in New York City.   At CHN, he oversaw the quality of clinical care and operations of 14 clinical sites, supervising physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, front desk staff, custodians, and nutritionists.   Under his leadership, CHN expanded access to and quality of care, including winning the Health Center Quality Leaders Award three years in a row from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Following the passing of CHN’s President and CEO in May 2014 and until January 2015, Dr. Weissman served as CHN’s Acting President and CEO helping to create the first Nurse Practitioner fellowship program in New York State and one of the first in the country.

Dr. Weissman received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Harvard University magna cum laude and a Medical Doctorate and Masters in Business Administration in Health Management from Tufts University. He completed his residency and chief residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.  He currently co-chairs the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Citywide Colorectal Cancer Control Coalition (C5). He was, until recently, the co-chair of the Clinical Quality Committee and the Cardiovascular Project Committee of the Mount Sinai Preferred Provider System (DSRIP PPS) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Community Health Care Association of New York State (CHCANYS) and AmidaCare. He is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine. His primary interests are the transition from pediatric to adult care, leveraging technology to streamline delivery and improve access to and quality of care, and training the next generation of physicians and medical leaders.
